at The Founder’s Room Honnold/Mudd Library

Claremont Colleges, Claremont, CA

Thursday, August 19, 2004

This workshop is designed for library staff who are responsible for binding library materials and would like to gain some background knowledge of historical bookbinding methods and the commercial library bookbinding process.  Participants will learn about the structure of a book and the history of bookbinding and will listen to representatives from a commercial bindery and an institutional bindery.  Treatment decisions and a variety of options will be discussed and participants will be provided with a decision tree that they can adapt for use at their home institutions.  There will be time for a hands-on breakout session at the end of the program.  The workshop is limited to 50 participants.  A registration fee of $50 includes a boxed lunch.  To register for this workshop please contact Linda Harris Mehr at 310-247-3000, ext. 201

LAPNet was established in January 1987 to meet the preservation needs of librarians, conservators, archivists and records managers in Los Angeles City and County. It is managed by a Steering Committee drawn from libraries and other record repositories. The Committee involves interested professionals in LAPNet activities through participation in subcommittees and workshops. LAPNet aims to serve as a forum of information exchange and foster the development of preservation and cooperative programs among all the libraries in the area, irrespective of their type or size.
