I've used Inmagic's DB/TextWorks s/w for a small library catalog, but it's a bit pricey. For a cheap solution see NYPL's s/w at http://store.yahoo.com/lshop/yoholi.html

i have 45,000 volumes in my automated catalogue, winnebago, now part of the company sagebrush. It is not perfect by any means but it is quite inexpensive. Mote Marine Library down here in sarasota uses their sister product, athena. if you go to mote's website you can see athena...

I’m investigating software for a library I plan to catalogue in London next year as a volunteer.

I’ve found an Australian product [available world-wide] which looks as if it will be fine for a small special library http://www.softlink.com.au/

There are two possibles: Alice which is basically for school stand-alone libraries but which I think will do the job for me . It has an additional module called something like “Rapid retrospective” which accepts MARC records. I should say that I have not yet used this – just looked at the demo disk. Not sure what the pricing is in the US but it is not expensive. You may be able to negotiate for a non-profit organisation. Worth a try.http://www.softlinkamerica.com/site/gateway/gateway.exe?displayform=index&library=13&category=solutions§ion=Alice

They also have a larger, more expensive product called Liberty3:
