The Getty Research Institute Associate Collections Curator, Collection Development Reporting to the Head of Collection Development, develops special collections and general library collections in art history, architecture, archaeology and related areas. Makes recommendations for purchases and gifts, assesses large collections, and negotiates contracts in collegial collaboration with fellow Collection Curators. Engages in intellectual interpretation of the collection via exhibitions, original research, publications, and public programs. Utilizes scholarly background and expertise in assessing potential acquisitions for their research value, authenticity, and historical condition (including provenance). Responds to queries concerning the collections, assists with processing decision, evaluates items requested for loans by other institutions, and recommends conservation treatments. Qualifications: M.A. or Ph.D. in art history or related area in the humanities; Master's degree in Library Science or suitable experience with research and management of special collections materials in a research library setting; 1-2 years related experience; solid knowledge of two foreign languages.
