A faculty member at Carleton University in Ottawa is working on illustrated magazines from the 19th century. I met her at the recent WESS conference in Paris and she told me about her problems researching her topic. I offered to post her research problem here to see if any of you who have expertise in this area can help her. Please respond directly to her. Thanks! ****** My research is on the engravers and draughtsmen working for the illustrated press (and sometimes for illustrated books) during the period going from 1832 till 1882. I'd like to know the names of these workers-artists, and of the enterprises for which they were working, mostly for US, but if someone has any information on other countries it would be wonderful. This is a fifty year period, but I don't think that there were so many known artists working for the illustrated press at that time. I am also interested in any titles of books, reports or the like that would give me information on these workers, either related to the illustrated press or to illustrated books, because the known artists working for the press were also often working for books. This is a big order, I know, but any little piece of information would be very welcomed. Michèle Martin Carleton University Ottawa [log in to unmask] ****************************** Thanks!
