As incoming ARLIS/NA President, I would like to mention a few things that came up at the NYC Executive Board meeting. The Board in post-conference meeting expressed enthusiastic thanks and appreciation to the New York conference team, and its leaders Ted Goodman and Margaret Webster, for a truly excellent experience. When one thinks of all the threads that had to be woven together, all the back scene details that had to be handled, to make the conference appear seamless to us participants, it boggles the brain. Thanks also go to Headquarters staff, and Sue Rawlyk in particular, for their critical contribution to the success of the conference. [I personally can't resist saying that the Plenary Session with Christo and Jean-Claude was unbelievable. They addressed hundreds and still made you feel like you were part of an intimate conversation. Fantastic.] The Board recognized two new Round Tables, based on the submission of a petition of 15 or more members, a charge for the group, and the selection of a moderator. The two new Round Tables are the Public Libraries Round Table and the Book Arts Round Table. The Board also discussed criteria for dissolution of Round Tables, agreeing that they *may* be dissolved if they do not submit an annual report, if they cannot find someone willing to be a moderator, or if interest in the group drops below 10. Membership will be getting a ballot to approve a new dues structure this summer. The current one is based on salary, and is seen to be an infringement of privacy. Several Board task forces were formed. Some of the areas they will be addressing/developing include guidelines for establishing new travel awards, suggestions for member information that could be included in the membership database to make the database serve a wider variety of Society needs, and a white paper laying out the pros and cons of various Society-Chapter relationship models. [There will be ample opportunity for discussion of the white paper! The need to address the subject has been triggered by -- among other things -- a report from the Society auditor that financial statements for chapters using the Society's federal ID number must be included in the Society's tax filing.] The Board accepted a proposal from the Publications Committee to form an ARLIS/NA Web Site Task Force to examine design, content and functionality of the site. Members include Jack Robertson, chair of the task force; Nedda Ahmed, our new web editor; Jonathan Franklin, Board liaison to the Publications Committee and former web editor; Lee Sorensen, at-large member of the Publications Committee and a former Society web master; and Judy Dyki, former chair of the Publications Committee and currently co-editor of Art Documentation. I plan on sending regular emails to keep you apprised of these and other areas of engagement! If there is something in particular you would like to see covered, let me know. It was great seeing so many members in New York! The best attended conference ever!
