Dear Sugene, One of the best ways to participate in ARLIS/NA would be to seek out your local chapter in Northern California and start there. There will also be much discussion on ARLIS-L after the New York Conference in April, since the New York meetings will only BEGIN the Society's strategic planning process. Sorry we won't see you in New York, but I hope that the Northern California Chapter website link below will provide you more information about becoming active in ARLIS/NA, and stay tuned to the LIST for more. http://library.berkeley.edu/~skoskine/ARLISNC.HTML Yours truly, Allen K. I have a fine arts background and am currently in library school at SJSU. Attracting/recruiting younger members and people of diverse background are issues that I am particularly interested in, but it looks like most of the discussion about this will happen at the conference in NYC. I cannot afford to go to the conference (though I really wanted to), and I wonder if my absence severely limits my participation in the organization. As a young and relatively new member, my question is how can I participate more in the organization (esp. in regards to these issues) if I am not going to the national conference? Is there even such an opportunity? This may invite others to answer: start your own initiatives, launch your own campaigns. But I'm new to all of this, and that isn't how I want to ease into things. Maybe some of you wiser folks have some words for me?
