Dear Nola,

At the Museum of Modern Art Library we are working on a project to document
the institutions containing archives and research material on New York
Latino visual artists. By the summer we expect to launch a website with an
overview of each archival collection we have surveyed in order to make this
material more accessible to the public.

Some places that you might want to visit for your independent study are the
Center for Puerto Rican Studies located at Hunter College, which has great
material on Nuyorican and Puerto Rican artists, and the Bronx Museum, whose
archives focus on artists of Latin American, Asian, and African descent in
the United States. At MoMa we also have artist file material as well as
catalogues and books on many Latin American and Latino artists. Some of the
bigger names in our collection of Latino artists files include Juan Sanchez,
Pepón Osorio, Enrique Chagoya, Gronk, Judith Baca, and Yolanda López.

For more information on our approx. 15,000 Latin American, Latino and
Caribbean books and catalogues you can consult our Latin American Online
bibliography at

Subject: [ARLIS-L] Artists Book Collection:- Underrepresented Artists - A
Request

Good day all. I am a current doctoral student with the University of
Wisconsin-Madison School of Library and Information Studies. I am performing
an independent study project with the Kohler Art Library (UW-Madison) that
concerns the development of their artists book collection in terms of
underrepresented artists (i.e. African American, Asian American, Latino/a,
and Native Americans, etc.). I would like to request your assistance in
identifying recommended names and/or specific artist books by
underrepresented artists, as well as resources on the topic. Any assistance
would be greatly appreciated. Please send responses directly to me at
[log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]> . Thank you for your
consideration of this request.

Nola Walker
