Yes, we still maintain artists' files. Usually we keep ephemera (catalogues too small to go on the shelves, show announcements, etc.) that are not normally accessible otherwise. We don't keep magazine or newspaper articles (copies or originals) because of the Internet availability here through Lexis/Nexis of many of the journals and papers we'd be interested in.
We are also in the process of setting up the name of each file on the online catalog so a search on the artist as a subject will show there is a file available. Much better than referring to a paper listing!
