TOUR 1. DIA:BEACON

Enjoy a beautiful bus ride along the Palisades through the Hudson
Valley to the new contemporary art museum in Beacon, New York,
built for the Dia Art Foundation's renowned collection of painting
and sculpture from the 1960s to the present. Each gallery is
devoted to a single artist and was designed to fulfill the
particular needs of the works. Artists include Dan Flavin, Donald
Judd, Bruce Nauman, Gerhard Richter, and Richard Serra. There is
private guided walk-through of Michael Heizer's "North South East
West." The work has been constructed in its entirety as a permanent
feature at Dia:Beacon, in the size and material (weathering steel)
that Heizer originally specified for it. The four diverse elements
measure more than 125 feet in length, and sink from the floor of
the gallery to a depth of 20 feet. After a box lunch at the museum,
tour the Tallix Art Foundry, also in Beacon, New York, where they
fabricate large sculptures for such artists as Louise Nevelson and
Joel Shapiro. The foundry features a changing outdoor disply of the
sculptures they have constructed.

The tour times are 9am-6pm and the cost is $110.

and is known for his extensive knowledge and wit.

The tour times are 3:30-6:30 and the cost is $70.

the thirteenth century, if not the entire Middle Ages, in context
with artifacts of the era. Tours will be given of the recently
renovated Marquand Library of Art and Archaeology, the Index to
Christian Art, and the Visual Resources Collection. There will be
