Title:        Library Director, Hirsch Library

> The Hirsch Library is the art research facility of the Museum of Fine
> Arts, Houston.    The director is responsible for the continued
> development and maintenance of the Library Department, its collections and
> services.  Oversees activities of the Hirsch Library and the Bayou Bend
> Library to deliver services to the museum professional staff and the
> general public.  Develops and administers work plans and budgets.  Creates
> and implements a collection development plan in conjunction with the
> curatorial and education staff to meet research and programming needs.
> Oversees the delivery of reference, bibliographic instruction and

> Meets with Library Trustee Committee to plan and review activities.
> Writes sections of grant proposals concerning the library.   Represents
> the Hirsch Library in various national and international organizations to
> participate in collaborative projects and to keep abreast of issues in art
> librarianship and information delivery.  Strong leadership and
> organizational skills; talent for detail and accuracy.  Good written and
> verbal communication skills.  Must be a team player and able to work
> effectively with museum staff, trustees, business contacts, and general
> public.  Must possess knowledge of the bibliography of art history.
> Requires MLS (ALA accredited school).  Undergraduate degree in art history
> required; advanced degree preferred.   Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus.
> Five years experience in art library (preferably a museum).  Background in
> collection development is a plus.  3-5 years managerial experience.

> Voyager library automation system, using the Anglo-American Cataloging
> Rules and Library of Congress classification and subject headings.

> Subject Authority databases online. Serves at reference desk occasionally.
> Understanding of the construction of a bibliographic record and an
> authority record.
> Familiarity with the Library of Congress classification schedules, subject
> headings and name headings.
> Familiarity with art history in order to assign appropriate subject
> headings and call numbers is preferred, especially that of Latin American
> art.
> Familiarity with the use of online library catalogs, and the cataloging
> module of the library automation system, Endeavor Information System's
> Voyager preferred. Basic computer skills, including familiarity with
> Windows, word processing, and databases.
> Ability to work well independently, but must have good judgment regarding
