In talking with various colleagues about the future of ARLIS/NA, I have been thinking about raising the following issues with members.
Where as an organization are we headed to? How can we address the decline in membership? How can we attract younger members to the profession and to the organization? Can we explore alternate models to conduct business? How can we collaborate with other professional library organizations to get beyond the silo effect? How are we going to address issues of diversity-ethnic, gender and class-effectively?
Would members of the board be willing to respond on these issues online? I think the New York meeting will be a turning point for our organization. What do others think? I still have faith and hope in continuing our work and commitment to ARLIS/NA-let's have some dialogue on these issues, if possible. Thank you.
