Add to that the number the lack of art librarians and art library directors of color, the lack of sizeable materials in archives devoted to underrepresented groups, the lack of archivists of color, also the format-artists of color haven't been readily introduced to this art form--so naturally, artists' book collections are lacking in materials from underrepresented groups-it is just the nature (so far) of the beast.  But there are some notable artists and publishers who are changing this little by little...Lorry Saucedo, Carolee Campbell (Ninja Press) has an excellent book by Chicano artist Jose Montoya, Albert Chong, Amos Paul Kennedy, and Marta Gomez are some the people that come to mind-perhaps ARLIS-L members can suggest others.   I also highly recommend Nexus Press and works by international artists such Codex aeroscriptus Ehrenbergensis : a visual score of iconotropisms by Mexican artist Felipe Ehrenberg and works by Enrique Chagoya.

Good day all.  I am a current doctoral student with the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Library and Information Studies. I am performing an independent study project with the Kohler Art Library (UW-Madison) that concerns the development of their artists book collection in terms of underrepresented artists (i.e. African American, Asian American, Latino/a, and Native Americans, etc.).  I would like to request your assistance in identifying recommended names and/or specific artist books by underrepresented artists, as well as resources on the topic.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  Please send responses directly to me at [log in to unmask].  Thank you for your consideration of this request.
