The 33rd annual conference of the Art Libraries Society of North America
will take place in Houston, Texas, March 31-April 6, 2005. Inspired by
and a reflection of Houston’s diverse locale, the theme for the 2005
conference,
Beyond Borders: Collaborative and Explorative Ventures in Arts
Information,
allows us to examine the myriad relationships that form among and
between information professionals serving the needs of multifarious
patrons. The following list gives one an idea of the types of programs
the theme might inspire. Please consider the theme as a suggested
direction for conference proposals keeping in mind that all proposals
will be considered even if they fall outside the theme’s general scope.
- Expanding roles of conventional art librarianship or visual resources
curatorship
- Cooperative relationships between librarians and visual resources
curators
- Partnerships with our colleagues South of the Border
- Coexistence of genres of art and forms of architecture within the
Houston metroplex
- New frontiers: time, space, and place in the 21st-century library
- Eclectic information: beyond art and architecture: visual studies,
cultural studies, visual culture, and more
- Core competencies for art librarians and visual resources curators:
beyond traditional practice
- Diversity in Houston: cultural exchanges in the art world and beyond
