Jenni Rodda and Maryly Snow are pleased to announce the debut of the
North American Lantern Slide Survey (NALSS). Jointly sponsored by Art
Libraries Society and Visual Resources Association, this online survey
is located at
http://www.arlisna.org/nalss/index.htm.
You can also access the survey directly from the banner link at either
organization's home page.
The survey will be conducted in 2 phases. Phase 1 (March 1-July 1,
2004) is for initial data collection. This is the opportunity to review
your lantern slides for vendors, special subject
strengths, and a variety of other information. Phase 2 (July 1,
2004-Nov 15-2004) is your
opportunity to review the information provided by other institutions.
We believe that each of us will be able to better understand our own
collections by comparing information across institutions. Hence, Phase
2 is the time to review and update your collection information based on
what you learn from others.
The survey is launched to coincide with VRA Portland conference Session
#1: "Viewing Our Past, Making It Present: Lantern Slides and Visual
Resources Collections," Tuesday, March 9, 1:30-3:00 p.m. We hope you
join us there!
