Job ad: Director, British Architectural Library
£45,000 - £50,000 pa - Central London
The Royal Institute of British Architects is the world's pre-eminent organisation dedicated to the advancement of architecture and to the promotion of excellence in the profession.
The RIBA's British Architectural Library is one of the world's leading architectural libraries with outstanding collections of books & journals, drawings, manuscripts & archives and photographs and an active Information Centre. It is the pre-eminent reference and information source for architectural practice, research and scholarship, serving members of the Royal Institute of British Architects, students, researchers and the general public.
With the forthcoming retirement of the current director, we are seeking to appoint a Director to lead and direct the development of this centre of excellence at an exciting time in its history. New premises for its Drawings Collection and Manuscripts & Archives Collection, together with two new architecture galleries, are due to open at the Victoria and Albert Museum in the autumn of 2004. At the same time, the RIBA's new charitable trust, in which the Library plays a major role, will be launched. The Director will have a senior role in the trust's development and there may be some changes to duties and responsibilities during this developmental period. The British Architectural Library has a total operating budget in excess of £1 million and a staff of 29.
