Cataloger Position Available at the MFAH
Reports to Associate Librarian  
Salaried, Exempt, Full Time-35 Hours A Week

Responsibilities:

Catalogs materials in RLIN and the Voyager library automation system, using
the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules and Library of Congress classification
and subject headings.
Searches name and subject headings in the Library of Congress Name and
Subject Authority databases online. 
Serves at reference desk occasionally. 

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

Understanding of the construction of a bibliographic record and an authority
record.
Familiarity with the Library of Congress classification schedules, subject
headings and name headings.
Familiarity with art history in order to assign appropriate subject headings
and call numbers is preferred, especially that of Latin American art.
Familiarity with the use of online library catalogs, and the cataloging
module of the library automation system, Endeavor Information System´s
Voyager preferred.
Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Windows, word processing,
and databases.
Ability to work well independently, but must have good judgment regarding
when to ask questions.
Accuracy in spelling.
Good organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
Must be able to lift heavy boxes and climb ladders. 

Education and Experience:

ALA accredited Masters in Library Science required.
Previous experience working in a library preferred, especially in technical
services.
Must have reading knowledge of Spanish ; familiarity with other foreign
languages helpful.
Some knowledge of art history strongly preferred.
