Assistant Librarian and Visual Resources Curator, VCU School of the Arts in
Qatar

The VCU School of the Arts in Qatar (VCU-Q) is seeking a librarian or visual
resources professional who is inventive, technologically literate, and
interested in exploring new options for providing proactive services, for
the position of Assistant Librarian and Visual Resources Curator. This is a
nontenured professional faculty position, which reports to the Director of
the Library, VCU-Q. It will have responsibility for developing, managing and
delivering services for visual resources and media center, and for
management and oversight of technical services operations for the Library.
This is an unusual opportunity to participate in the development of a new
library service and a ground-breaking educational endeavor.

VCU School of the Arts in Qatar is a new and pioneering project bringing the
best of American design education to the Middle East. The School is a branch
campus of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. It was
established in 1998 in co-operation with the Qatar Foundation for Education,
Science and Community Development, with the mission of creating
opportunities that encourage intellectual and professional growth for the
young women of Qatar and the region. It offers a complete educational
program leading to a Virginia Commonwealth University BFA degree in three
areas: Communication Arts and Design, Fashion Design and Merchandising, and
Interior Design. The first graduating class received their degrees in June
2001. The library is still in development, with some 12,000 volumes, 850
videos and DVDs, and 20,000 slides. A new, larger library facility is being
planned.
