.cfm>
The Special Libraries Association (SLA) has sent a letter to Attorney
General John Ashcroft objecting to disparaging remarks he made about
librarians during a presentation to the National Restaurant Association. The
Attorney General stated that librarians were being misled about the U.S.
Patriot Act by "breathless reports and baseless hysteria" from groups such
as the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

2. SLA Launches 2003 Membership Campaign
<http://www.sla.org/content/memberservice/Recruit.cfm>
Today's information professionals are found in many work settings, with many
titles, but all with one focus...putting knowledge to work. As an SLA
member, you realize the value and benefits of SLA membership for your
career, for professional networking...and to advance your profession. Now,
SLA is asking you to spread the word and recruit others to join the SLA
community of professionals all dedicated to putting knowledge to work!

3. SLA Announces Information Alliance with Information Today
<http://www.sla.org/content/memberservice/communication/pr/pressrelease/2328
.cfm>
The Special Libraries Association (SLA) announces that it has entered into
an information alliance with Information Today, Inc., (ITI). This new
venture will allow SLA and ITI to share information, resources and assist
with the cross promotion of conferences and programs. In addition, SLA
members who are new subscribers of ITI publications will be given a ten
percent discount. The partnership will remain in effect through 2004 and
does not limit SLA's ability to work with other companies.

6. Study Reveals Corporate Librarian as Hot Job for 2003/04
<http://www.sla.org/content/memberservice/communication/pr/pressrelease/2325
.cfm>
The position of Corporate Librarian is one of the top three hot jobs for
2003-2004, with an average salary of $60,000 - $65,000 per year, as revealed
in a study conducted by Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc., an outplacement
firm.

7. Oct 29th Virtual Seminar: Knowledge Management: The Role of
Storytelling
<http://www.sla.org/content/Events/distance/virtsem2003/oct29virtsem.cfm>
Michael Kull, Ph.D., will facilitate the next virtual seminar. He is an
absent-minded professor with delusions of becoming a famous moviemaker. His
graduate courses and executive seminars force people to reflect on
uncomfortable realities, unrealistic dreams, and on finding the courage and
tools for creating uncompromised value through work. He is an instructor at
George Washington University in Washington, DC, and Executive Producer of
AMPLIFI, an advisory and new media firm providing knowledge and services for
amplifying organizational intelligence through digital storytelling.
