Hello All, The following is a message from Lauren Stark, CAA Conference Coordinator. If you have faculty status and are planning on attending the American Association of University Professors governance conference in October, you may be interested in the scholarship opportunity detailed below. The deadline is September 1. -Cate Cooney ARLIS/NA-CAA Liaison Colleagues: The American Association of University Professors has a limited amount of funding available for contingent faculty members who would like to attend our October governance conference in Indianapolis. The funding is part of a project, funded by the Sloan Foundation, on contingent faculty and work and family issues. The conference is October 10-11 with an additional preliminary day on athletics on October 9. Funding will cover the two regular conference days, Friday October 10 and Saturday October 11. The conference, "Making Teamwork Work," will have sessions on many aspects of college and university governance. A portion of the program will be devoted to issues relating to contingent faculty appointments: a luncheon talk on contingent faculty and governance; a session on the AAUP's new draft policy statement on contingent faculty and the profession; and another session on what work the AAUP has done and should do on adjunct issues. For more information about the conference, visit our Web site at http://www.aaup.org/events/03gov.htm. A limited number of scholarships are available; faculty holding either part-time or full-time non-tenure-track positions are eligible to apply. Scholarships cover travel and meals up to a specified cap, registration, and hotel. If interested, please send a letter of interest to Gwendolyn Bradley BEFORE SEPTEMBER 1. The letter should state where and what you teach, the type(s) of appointments that you hold, and why you are interested in attending the conference. You will be notified about whether you have received funding by September 3. If the number of applicants exceeds the number of available scholarships, decisions will be made on the basis of criteria including diversity in geographic location, discipline, and type of appointment.
