Avery Architectural and Fine Arts Library, Columbia University, will be
closed Mon. Aug. 25 - Mon. Sept. 2, 2003 (Labor Day).

Avery Library is entering the final stages of Phase 1 of its
renovation. Large parts of the collection will be moved, shifted,
re-arranged, and cleaned starting Monday Aug. 25 and continuing for
approximately 4 weeks. The first step will be moving books back into the
renovated campus level (closed since March 2003), including balconies for
which there is no elevator access.

To facilitate the move and ensure the safety of our patrons, the Library
will be closed to the public from Mon. Aug. 25 - Mon. Sept. 2. The staff
will be working Aug. 25 - 29 and can be reached as usual via email or phone.

Faculty and researchers who need access to the collections from Aug. 25-29
should call Lucille Hawthorne at 1-212-854-6746 to make special
arrangements if feasible. The Department of Drawings and Archives will be
open, by appointment only as usual.

Book moves will continue throughout the first three weeks of September and,
as sections are moved, parts of the open collection will become unavailable
until the completion of the move. The Library will be open, but
disruptions are expected.
