TITLE: Cataloguing Assistant DATE: August 13, 2003 POSITION DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Collections Manager, the Cataloguing Assistant will be assisting with a grant-funded cataloguing project. Responsibilities will include handling, measuring and photographing museum artifacts; writing descriptions, filling out condition reports and catalogue worksheets, and entering same data on computer database; using digital camera and manipulating digital images on computer; some minimal registration and conservation tasks such as writing museum numbers on objects and tags, etc. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum 2 years college-level study of anthropology, material culture, museum studies or related field or equivalent. Some object-handling experience preferred, as well as a background of collecting and managing object-related data in a museum setting. Experience with digital photography preferred. Must be comfortable working with computers, in particular Microsoft Office applications and possess good typing skills as well as the ability to write concise descriptions. HOURS: 14 hours per week. Temporary position funded for 14 weeks.
