Dear Shelly and ARLIS members:
I believe the reason that images of
the other two Maillol sculptures from his series "The Seasons" were
difficult to locate is that they were not titled "Fall" or "Winter" but "Pomona"
and "Flora". All four sculptures are illustrated on pages 28 & 29 in
the following catalogue:
An Exhibition of Original Pieces of Sculpture by Aristide
Maillol 1861-1944. (NY: Paul Rosenberg & Co., 1958), which includes
an introductory essay and chronology by John Rewald.
The note regarding these four sculptures
states: "The following four figures constitute the group of the "Four Seasons"
executed for the Russian collector, Ivan A. Morosoff of Moscow". The four
are dated 1910-1911.
