PRESS RELEASE FOR  WILLIAM BOND WALKER  EXHIBITION,
July 10 - August 26, 2003, AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER (NY)

The Gallery of the Art/Music Library of the University of Rochester (NY) is presenting an exhibition of fourteen paintings by William Bond Walker from July 10 through August 26, 2003. The exhibition is hosted by Stephanie Frontz, Art Librarian and Head of the Multimedia Center.
Walker, who lives and works in Canaan, NY, is showing abstractions done over the past decade that demonstrate his continuing concern with color and in some cases with geometry.  The paintings are done in acrylic on paper or board.  His latest works are from a series of thirty "Geometric" inventions.
Walker, who also works in an expressionist figurative style, cites as his inspiration a number of artists from Cezanne to Richard Diebenkorn.  He studied art in Taos, NM and Los Angeles before earning a degree in art at the University of Iowa, in Iowa City.
A retired chief librarian from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Walker has painted in Canaan, NY, near the Berkshire Mountains of Massachusetts, for over twenty years.  He makes his home in a structure beside Queechy Lake, Canaan, that was built in 1948 as an art gallery -- "The Berkshire Art Center"--which was in operation from 1948 to the late 1950s. The gallery room is his studio.
There will be a closing reception in the Gallery of the Art/Music Library, in the University's Rush Rees Library on the River Campus on Sunday, August  24, from 1 to 4 o'clock.  Walker will be present.  All ARLIS/NA members within "commuting distance" are especially invited to attend.
