Hello all, I noticed on the Library of Congress Classification Weekly List 25 (June 18, 2003) that N6505.5.O87 has been assigned for Outsider Art. Upon looking at the classification schedule for N, I've noticed that this new number falls in the place for: United States, Special aspects or movements, A-Z. My questions to the list are: 1) Is this a change in policy in how LC is going to class things in this topic? Usually, when items have brought out the "Outsider art" aspect in a work, it has been classed in N7432.5.A78 (Art brut. Naive art. Outsider art). When LC has brought out geographic and chronological aspects, they have been classed accordingly without Outsider art being represented in the class number. 2) If this new number is needed, why is the cutter not .A78 for consistency within the N schedule? 3) How have others classed materials on Outsider art that have specific geographical aspects?
