POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Position: Library Assistant
Department: Library and Research Center
Supervisor: Director of Library and Research Center

Position Summary

The Library Assistant provides administrative support to the Director and
staff of the Library and Research Center. This includes, but is not limited
to, staffing the reference desk on a rotating basis and answering the main
library phone; ordering and processing library materials; assisting museum
staff, library users, and off-site researchers with library resources; and
preparing correspondence and other written materials. The Library Assistant
also may be expected to help with library exhibitions and other special
projects as needed.

Principal Responsibilities

        *       Staff library reference desk on rotating basis; assist
museum staff and library users with library resources
        *       Answer main library phone, receive and respond to
information requests and forward requests to appropriate library staff
        *       Assist library staff with reference requests received by
mail, phone, and email
        *       Assist library director with purchase of library materials,
resolve problems with orders, and receive books in library management system
(Voyager)
        *       Manage periodical subscriptions (receive issues in Voyager,
photocopy articles for Archives on Women Artists, and claim missing issues)
        *       Process, shelve, and circulate library materials
        *       Process and acknowledge gifts and materials for the Archives
on Women Artists
        *       Assist library director with library exhibitions
        *       Perform other duties and assist with special projects as
needed

Position Qualifications

        *       Bachelor's degree
        *       General knowledge of art history. Degree or significant
coursework in art history preferred
        *       At least one year related work experience
        *       Excellent oral and written communication skills,
organizational skills, service orientation, and attention to detail
        *       Experience with library management systems (experience with
Voyager preferred) and other database systems such as MS Access and Excel
        *       Reading knowledge of at least one foreign language is a plus
