The School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York City seeks applicants for the
f/t regular position of Technical Services/Systems Librarian.
Salary range: $48,000 - $52,000, commensurate with experience.  Includes
comprehensive benefits package.  Position available July 2003; application
review
begins immediately.
Located near Gramercy Park in Manhattan, the Visual Arts Library serves the
diverse educational needs of 3,200 undergraduates, 350 graduate students,
and an outstanding faculty of 700 working professionals.  Library
collections include 65,000 books, 280 current periodicals, as well as
distinctive special collections.  SVA has been an Endeavor Voyager site
since 1998.  Library staff of 15 includes 4 f/t librarians.
Responsibilities:  original and complex copy cataloging of monographs and
serials in print and non-print formats; database management including
quality control and cleanup; managing daily cataloging workflow;
establishing departmental policies and procedures; supervising and
evaluating one p/t cataloger and two f/t cataloging technicians; local
system administration of Voyager, including changing local settings and
running reports; keeping current with cataloging trends and technologies via
professional affiliations; limited reference responsibilities; participation
as member of library management team in long range planning.
Qualifications:  ALA-accredited MLS degree; in-depth knowledge of AACR2R,
LCRI, LCC, LCSH and MARC.  Minimum 3 years experience in academic or
research library.  Fluency in Windows environment, experience with OCLC
and/or RLIN, LC Classification Web, in-depth use of integrated library
system (Voyager preferred).  Supervisory experience.  Must be energetic
team-oriented leader, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Some reference experience.  Additional graduate degree in art/design history
or humanities preferred.  Experience with
MS Access or SQL desirable.
