A faculty member is looking for what he remembers as a painting by Joseph Wright of Derby titled “Carron Iron Works.” It is a painting of a large structure belching smoke and flames. [Robert Burns visited it, he said, to get a sense what Hell would be like!]. No such painting is listed in Nicholson’s 1968 catalogue raisonne or in the more recent Wright of Derby literature, including Christopher Wright’s Masterworks index. The faculty thinks it was a recent discovery published a few years ago.
Any information on this would greatly be appreciated.
