Head Librarian: SAM seeks Head Librarian to oversee the Dorothy Stimson
Bullitt Library at the Seattle Art Museum downtown and the McCone Foundation
Asian Art Library at the Seattle Asian Art Museum. The libraries support the
research needs of the collection and staff; the museum’s educational
programs; the publication programs of the museum; and all other museum
activities as required. The Head Librarian reports to the Director of
Education and Public Programs and supervises a part-time librarian at the
Seattle Asian Art Museum and volunteers.
Responsibilities include: collection development and management, reference
services, cataloging and technical services, research support to staff,
volunteers, students, scholars, and the general public, budget management,
evaluation of library needs and long-range planning.
Qualifications include: MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution plus
BA or MA in art history; reading knowledge of French, German or Italian,
excellent communication skills; familiarity with current cataloguing
practices and procedures; knowledge of text and electronic resources in the
arts; experience supervising staff and volunteers; and 3-5 years experience
