Hi All:  Please excuse any cross-postings.  Virginia Tech s Art and Architecture Library maintains a collection of architectural drawings/plans/blueprints that is NOT an archival collection, but is primarily intended for in-class (studio) instructional use not as a historical record.

If your library or VR collection maintains a similar collection of drawings, please take a few minutes to respond to our quick survey (5 short answers).  Survey results will be used in an article about these kinds of collections:

Survey:

  1. How many drawing sets does your library/VR collection own?
        Ca. 80 full project drawings
  1. Do you circulate this collection do the drawings leave the library?
These circulate as reserve items to upper classmen and grads in architecture
  1. Do you have a budget for this collection? If so, where do you purchase drawings from?
        No. budget
  1. If you do not have a budget for the collection, how do you acquire the drawings?
One of our Architecture Profs has a practice and has asked colleagues from other practices to contribute at least one project drawing to the collection.  Technically we are storing these for him for educational purposes.
  1. Please feel free to share with us any comments or questions you may have regarding these types of materials.  If you would rather not have your institution s name or your name mentioned in the article, please let us know.
The materials are circulated to a relatively small number of students once per semester for an unspecified period of time.  The students return them to the Prof. who has required them to study the drawings.  The Prof. then inspects the drawings to make sure that they are complete and little damaged.  If there is any damage a new set is requested from the company that originally donated the project .  If there is no damage they go back into the flat file.

Many Thanks!
