Colleagues:
There is an excellent article on the burning of the
National Library of Iraq and National Centre for Archives as well as the Awqaf
Library (Library of the Ministry of Religious Endowments) in today's Boston
Globe. It features information from Andras Riedlmayer, Bibliographer in
Islamic Art at Harvard's Fine Arts Library, who has been the primary source of
details about the devastation (and what is being done about it) on
ARLIS-L. It is the only piece I have yet seen other than the AP article
that appeared the day of the burning. I found it through a Google
search on "Iraq National Library."
