Hmmm. Who was responsible for the outbreak of people killing people in the streets?

the military went to pains to identify historic and cultural monuments in
Iraq and specify that they should be spared--even if it put our guys &
gals
in harm's way--from military attack. Yes, it is tragic that there aren't
enough military personnel over there to prevent the Iraqi people from
destroying their own cultural heritage--but why do we decide that it
should
be a higher military priority to stand guard over books and art than to
keep people from killing each other in the streets? It's disturbing to
realize that my colleagues might choose saving a book over saving a life.

Forget the Op-Ed pieces and calls to the White House--let's send a legion
of librarians over there to help guard culture. If nothing else, we can
argue looters to death as they try to make off with treasures.
