Assistant Library Director for
Resources Management and Collection Access Services
The Fashion Institute of Technology seeks an energetic, innovative leader to
fill the newly created position of Assistant Director. The Assistant
Director will report to the Library Director as part of the Library
management team and have direct responsibility for the area of Resources
Management and Collection Access Services, including Acquisitions,
Cataloging, Circulation, and Periodicals Departments. These departments
include 1 full-time/4 adjunct faculty librarians and 30 support staff.
Responsibilities: Plans, implements and evaluates library policies and
procedures, oversees personnel and workflow, manages the migration to an Ex
Libris Aleph 500 integrated library system (projected 2004), including
acquisitions and serials modules, develops and monitors budgets, vendor
relations, licensing agreements, statistical reports, oversees collection
development in collaboration with faculty. Provides a minimum of 2 hours
per week on the Reference Desk, serves on College faculty and administrative
committees.
Qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited program plus five years of
supervisory experience, preferably in an academic setting, demonstrated
knowledge of acquisitions and cataloging, integrated automation systems,
RLIN or OCLC, MARC formats and national standards. Candidates must possess
excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to foster a
collaborative and cooperative work environment, strong analytical and
problem-solving skills in addition to active professional involvement.
Non-classroom faculty tenure-track position. Salary is competitive with
