ISLAMIC ARCHITECTURE IMAGE COLLECTION SPECIALIST
MIT Libraries, Rotch Visual Collections (RVC)

**Two year appointment with possibility of extension.**

Selects, catalogs, and maintains slides, digital images, and other visual
materials of art, architecture and urban design in the Muslim world.
Develops records and authority files for images and enters data into a
relational database.  Will participate in planning and implementing a pilot
project to digitize core teaching collections in Islamic architecture.
Provides reference assistance to users of the Islamic architecture image
collections and develops and maintains web pages to support teaching and
research in Islamic architecture and urbanism.  Has responsibility for
archival collection of Islamic images developed for the Aga Khan Program,
including acquiring image collections, creating finding aids, maintaining
records for reproduction rights, and working with ArchNet to identify and
provide images for display. Shares in all RVC services and participates in
staff meetings and department initiatives. Contributes to system-wide
committees and special-purpose task forces and participates in professional
development, continuous learning, and service activities as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required:  Graduate degree or the equivalent combination of
education and experience in architectural and art history in the Islamic and
the developing world.  Two years library/visual images experience. Reading
knowledge of one Islamic language (Arabic, Farsi, Urdu).  Flexibility and
ability to work with patrons of diverse backgrounds. Strong public-service
attitude and excellent collaborative skills.  Highly Desirable:  Familiarity
with image digitization practices.  Familiarity with standards for image
cataloging and metadata tools such as LCSH, ULAN, AAT, TGN, etc. Project
management experience.  Reading knowledge of another foreign language
(German, French, Italian Spanish).

HIRING SALARY:  $ 42,000 minimum; commensurate with qualifications and
experience.
