Responsibilities

The Data Editor will be responsible for editing, enhancing and augmenting
descriptions of works of art for the ARTstor database.  The Data Editor will
report to the Director of Metadata and Cataloging, and work closely with
ARTstor's metadata, production and technology teams.  The position will be
located in either Manhattan or Princeton, NJ at ARTstor's discretion.
Specific responsibilities will include:

·     Assisting in determining, documenting, applying and validating
appropriate editorial procedures for enhancing the quality of ARTstor's
descriptive datasets
·     Review editorial enhancements to descriptive datasets once loaded
into system and sign-off on successful implementation
·     Review and validate editorial enhancements carried out upon
descriptive datasets by external parties
·     Contribute to the utilization of controlled vocabularies, authority
files and classification schema by ARTstor

Qualifications

Required: Bachelor's degree; a minimum of 2 years cataloging experience in a
library, museum, archive or similar environment; experience working with
cataloging rules, controlled vocabularies, classification and subject
indexing schemes; knowledge of and ability to apply cataloging,
classification and indexing methods and standards appropriate to the online
art and cultural heritage domain; knowledge of AACR2, MARC, Dublin Core, VRA
Core, EAD, AAT, ULAN, TGN, and ICONCLASS; attention to detail and a quality
oriented approach in the editorial process; knowledge of, or interest in,
the visual arts.

Preferred: Higher degree in library & information science, or similar
discipline; A working understanding of character encoding standards,
especially UNICODE; basic UNIX skills; ability to work with data editing
software.
