The Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles, California is looking for an Assistant Cataloger. Please see the brief position description and contact information below. Assistant Cataloger Full-Time/ Exempt The Japanese American National Museum is a new model for American museums dedicated to transforming lives and strengthening community through the exploration of diverse histories, arts and culture. The National Museum seeks an Assistant Cataloger for the Hirasaki National Resource Center & Collections Unit. The Assistant Cataloger will undertake the integrated cataloging of the National Museum’s diverse holdings of bibliographic and non-bibliographic materials (videorecordings, soundrecordings, etc.) - in compliance with emerging standards for museum description. Cataloging efforts will initially focus on the National Museum’s diverse and extensive holdings in the Hirasaki National Resource Center. Masters in Information and Library Studies from an A.L.A accredited institution required. Knowledge of and experience with AACR2r, LCSH, and LC Classification. Familiarity with Questor ARGUS preferred. At least one year of experience in related field, ability to multi-task and prioritize, work in a team environment, have excellent organizational skills and be detail oriented. Reading knowledge of Japanese preferred. Interest in current trends and developments in cataloging, metadata standards, and information retrieval.
