Pratt Institute Library has two vacant positions: Reference Services
Coordinator (see below) and Art & Architecture Librarian (soon to be
posted). If anyone attending the ARLIS conference is interested in either
position, I will be there from Saturday, 3/22, to Tuesday, 3/25, and would

Title: Reference Services Coordinator

Position Summary:
Under minimal supervision and with wide latitude for independent judgment
works with the Director of Reader Services to ensure reference services run
smoothly by providing appropriate supervision and direction for faculty,
staff and students. Duties include but are not limited to supervision and
scheduling of public services librarians, coordinating collection
development and helping to foster information literacy.

Job Duties:
-Supervise regular staff coverage of reference desk; provide reference
assistance and instruction.

-Participate in training of staff and student employees.

-Supervise the servicing and developing collections of reference materials,
monographs, serials, etc.

-Provide reference assistance in art, design, architecture and information &
library science curricula.

-Participate in faculty training.

-Participate in library collect development programs.

-Assume responsibility for coordinating topical workshops and clinics
related to the curriculum.

-Serve on the team of library liaisons to the Institute classroom and studio
instructional departments.

-Fill in as needed during peak service periods or during the absence of
library faculty or staff.

-Oversee appropriate referrals for government-generated information and
other specialized social sciences, humanities and sciences information
sources within and outside the library's collections.

-Participate in other library related projects and institute-wide committees
as necessary.

-Formulate and implement models of assessment and reporting outcomes each
semester.

-Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education:
An ALA accredited MLS required; prefer MLS with additional subject degree in
Art.

Experience:
Require 4 years of experience; prefer 6 years of experience; also prefer
experience providing library-related instruction and public services in an
academic environment and supervisory or management experience.

Skills:
Strong computer skill including ability to work with web-based databases;
prefer strong HTML skills.

Other:
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to
work effectively with a culturally diverse population are required.
