The library of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam will move to a new - temporary - location per 1st March. The building at the Museumplein will still be open until the end of 2003. There will be a presentation of a selection of the collection on view until the end of the year. In 2004 the renovation of the late 19th century building will begin. The future of the museum is still uncertain. The massive protests against the museum being divided in two sections of which one half would move to a decentral location have resulted in a sort of principle decision that the museum is a whole and should be treated as such. The location for a new Stedelijk at the Museumplein seemed sure in december, but the option of moving to the so-called Zuid-As (a business area to the South of the centre) is still not unconceivable. As for the short term: the whole staff, restauration departments, library, documentatiuon and archives etc. etc., will move to the Deccaweg 26. The email adresses, the telephone numbers etc, will not change. On the new website of the museum (www.stedelijk.nl) the latest news about the moving and rebuilding will be available. The catalogue of the library is on-line now and can be approached via said website. It is still in an experimental phase, but functions quite well we think. Please feel free to comment on this and other matters. From the 1st of March to the third week of april it may be difficult to reach us, either through email or by telephone.
