Good morning, One of our sculpture department staff wants to know the meaning of the word "yan" in two of Picasso's works Yan Sun and Bearded Yan, both ceramic pieces. I have found several meanings in Chinese, and that he once had a dog named Yan, but I have not been able to find anything that looked like an appropriate answer given what the pieces look like.
