New School University seeks a Director of the Adam and
Sophie Gimbel Design Library at the Parsons School of Design, a major
constituent division of the University.
The Parsons School of Design is one of the largest degree-granting
colleges of design and art in the nation, with programs spanning a broad range
of design, art and academic fields.
The School’s focus on contemporary and cutting-edge practices in design
and art offers a particular challenge for a library director who can combine the
coordination of library services, yet respond to the future-directed needs of
educating high-level professional designers. The successful candidate reports to and
works closely with the University Librarian and collaborates with the Parsons
School of Design. The Gimbel Design
Library is one of three libraries comprising the New School University
Library. New School University has
retained the services of Freeman Philanthropic Services, L.L.C. to assist in
conducting this search.
The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive library
background with extensive knowledge of digital and print resources and
information; the ability to coordinate library services, yet be responsive to
the needs of educating high-level professional designers; and a Master’s degree
in library science from an ALA-accredited school is required; subject Master’s
degree in art and design related field is required.
