The Smithsonian American Art Museum is pleased to announce the publication
of the Fall 2002 issue of American Art, which is being mailed out to
subscribers this month. This issue of the museum's academic journal (vol.
16, no. 3) includes the following articles:

Auther

"The Artist as Choreographer: Sargent's Murals at the Museum of Fine Arts,
Boston" by Jane Dini

"Poses for the Camera: Eadweard Muybridge's Studies of the Human Figure" by
Janine A. Mileaf

"Sharrer's Tribute to the American Working People: Issues of Labor and
Leisure in Post-World War II American Art" by Erika Doss

"Buy American? The Debate over the Art Tariff" by Kimberly Orcutt

"What Does One Look at in an Agnes Martin Painting? Nine Musings on the
Occasion of her Ninetieth Birthday" by Richard Tuttle

American Art is a peer-reviewed periodical published three times per year,
in March, July and November. Articles may encompass any aspect of America's
visual heritage, including the fine arts, popular culture, photography and
electronic media, public art, architecture, and the decorative arts.

Information about submitting manuscripts and ordering subscriptions can be

also posted.
