Dear Colleagues:

CORSAIR, the comprehensive online catalog of the collections of the
Pierpont Morgan Library, is now available at:

        http://corsair.morganlibrary.org

Named after Pierpont Morgan's yacht, CORSAIR is a single database
providing unified access to over 200,000 records for medieval and
Renaissance manuscripts, books, literary and historical manuscripts,
music scores, ancient seals and tablets, drawings, prints, and art
objects.

Readers of ARLIS-L will be particularly interested in the comprehensive
coverage of the Library's art collections, illustrated books, artists'
letters, and art-related secondary material. Records for the Library's
early business correspondence are a rich source of information about the
provenance and acquisition of collection items, including some objects
acquired by other institutions after Pierpont Morgan's death.

Many records include summaries of the content of individual letters,
lengthy notes about provenance, and detailed descriptions of medium and
support and bindings. Numerous indexes allow users to browse the catalog
by name, title, subject, or date, or target information on provenance,
medium or support, language or script, standard bibliographic citation,
etc. Extensive help screens provide instruction on basic and advanced
search techniques, as well as individual guides to research on the
curatorial collections and the Reference Collection.

CORSAIR and the collection information contained in CORSAIR records are
works in progress, and we welcome questions and comments about both. A
list of contacts is available at:

        http://corsair.morganlibrary.org/help/contacts.htm.
