We have thought long and hard about this acquisition, too. We have
decided to opt out of this portion of the Allgemeines Kunstlerlexikon
(well, I think we have--I haven't actually gotten a response from my
message to our vendor). The biographical index to the whole set is
great--we use it all the time. I have a hard time envisioning how a
researcher would really use the Index by Profession. (I would be
interested to hear an opposing view.) Other considerations are expense
and shelf space. Although I hate to have an incomplete reference set, I
figure that, if we all live long enough, we will eventually get the
complete index by professions, since an index is issued every ten
volumes.
