The
Costume Institute Library of The Metropolitan Museum of Art is looking
for
a part-time cataloger (20 hours per week).
The part-time librarian
will be responsible for the cataloging of the
library's materials in a
variety of languages and formats, and retrospective
conversion of the card
catalog into machine-readable format. Using detailed
knowledge of USMARC
format, Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, LC Rule
Interpretations, LC Subject
Headings and Classification, the cataloger will
assist in catalog maintenance
when the retrospective records are transferred
into online catalog
(Watsonline).
Qualifications: MLS from an accredited ALA school;
experience with an
integrated library system, preferably Innovative
Interfaces Inc.; previous
cataloging experience; ability to work
independently; a familiarity with the
field of costume and its literature
preferred; good interpersonal skills.
The librarian's skills must include an
ability to catalog in RLIN, detailed
knowledge of USMARC format, online
authority control operations, including
appropriate cross-references, as well
as editorial abilities.
