To ARLIS-NA and College Art Association Members:

This is a reminder that September 13, 2002, is the
deadline for proposals for long sessions for the
2004 College Art Association conference in Seattle.
(Exact conference dates are: February 18-21, 2004.)

Proposals for these 2-l/2 hour "juried" sessions
are forwarded directly to the College Art Association.
For more information, see:
http://www.collegeart.org/caa/news/2002/may_june/2004sessionproposals.html

***************************************************

The other session opportunity for the Seattle CAA
conference is the "affiliated society" short
(1-1/2 hour) session that ARLIS/NA may choose to
schedule. The deadline for submitting this session
is not until next year. Nevertheless, it is not too
early to begin planning. Please contact me directly
if you have an interest in crafting a conference
session for the 2004 conference. This is a wonderful
opportunity for local Seattle librarians to showcase
their projects especially.

College Art Association is encouraging sessions that
do not conform to the traditional format of formal
"read" research papers. A question-and-answer session
or discussion panel on some topic of interest to the
CAA constituency (art history and studio art faculty,
museum and art librarian staff) could work also.
To start your creative thinking, you might like to
scan the list of long sessions proposed for the 2003
conference:
http://www.collegeart.org/caa/conference/2003/sessionspg1_6.html
But keep in mind that the "educational and professional
practices" category for CAA sessions can embrace a wide
variety of topics of interest to researchers in the
visual arts.

Again, please contact me directly for more information
if you have an interest in this session possibility.
Note that ARLIS/NA can schedule only one "affiliated
society" short session per conference; that the
chair and all presenters must be personal (as opposed
to institutional) members of CAA, and that there are
some restrictions on serving in the same session capacity
during sequential CAA conferences.
