Good day, list, Having just come back from the OLAC conference in St. Paul, and attending the realia workshops, it has caused me to think and rethink some of the things I do. One of these is artists books. The general question, and what I would like the collected wisdom of ARLIS-L members to consider, is ... should I continue to catalog artists books the way I always have been (and in the manner that seems to be the standard), which is as a book, or, ... should I catalog them as objects, with a $h [art original]. In both scenarios, there would be subject access via "Artists books", but by cataloging it as an object it could be clearer as to what is being cataloged. Additionally, if I catalog this as an object, would I append the subject heading with $v Specimens. Thank you for your thoughts. Kent C. Boese Arts Cataloger Smithsonian Institution Libraries P.O.
