You'll Want to Take a Look At. . . .
http://www.niso.org/international/SC4/sc4docs.html

Two new proposed international standards are now out for ballot:
*The ISIL standard (DIS 15511) is a 16-character variable length code
to uniquely identify libraries and related organizations. The
standard can accommodate existing national library identification
systems.
Significance of the ISIL: For the first time we will have an
agreed-upon international identification system for libraries
Voting members are encouraged to review the standard and send
comments (if any) to [log in to unmask] by September 27, 2002.

*CD 21127, A Reference Ontology for the Interchange of Cultural
Heritage Information was developed by TC46/SC4/WG9 chaired by Nick
Crofts. The standard is based on the framework drafted by CIDOC the
international organization focusing on the information and IT needs
of museums. Tony Gill at RLG was the U.S. expert contributing to this
standard.
Significance of this standard: It provides a framework for the
exchange of information about museum holdings and provides the basis
for interoperability in the cultural heritage community. Voting
members are encouraged to review the standard and send comments (if
any) to [log in to unmask] by November 1.
