Job description

Title:  Library Assistant
Classification:   regular part-time
Reports to:  Director of the Library
Schedule:  part-time (25 hours per week) when classes are in session (fall &
spring semesters, summer session); Monday-Thursday, 4:30-9:00 p.m. and
Saturday (except summer session) 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Essential function:  to provide circulation desk services evenings and
Saturdays and to oversee serials maintenance

Responsibilities:
* Supervise the circulation desk, insuring accurate charge-out and check-in
of items
* Supervise cash receipts, closing out cash register according to schedule
* Assist patrons locating items and resources, submitting monthly inquiry

* Supervise and train student employees evenings and Saturdays
* Oversee equipment and supplies, reporting problems promptly
* Maintain serials, including check-in & claims
* Supervise and implement entry of holdings into serials module of Bobcat
Plus
* Maintain serials desiderata and duplicate lists
* Coordinate binding & preservation program, preparing holdings for transfer
to bindery with ABLE program and according to Ocker & Trapp schedule
* Process & monitor serials claims
* Supervise & perform physical processing of new acquisitions
* Oversee migration of serials holdings data to OPAC
* Complete other assignments from the director of the library as needed

Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor's degree, and library
experience or library school studies are desirable.  The ability to operate
a keyboard and a mouse are required.
