Will manage the Library and 8 curatorial department libraries, and the Library of the School of the Museum.

Collection Development and Management: Appraise and build the library collections of more than 320,000 items to meet the research needs of staff and outside scholars in interpreting the Museum's collections; direct the preservation program; supervise circulation, stack maintenance, reserves and interlibrary loan programs.

Public Services: Plan and provide reference services for Museum staff and outside scholarly users; develop program of bibliographic instruction; manage library's web page and home page on the Museum's internal network.

Intellectual Access: Oversee technical services and cataloging policies and procedures; plan and maintain online information systems serving Museum staff and scholarly community.

Administration: Hire, supervise, and evaluate all library staff; prepare budget proposals, manage operating budget, special funds and grant budgets; work with Development to secure outside funding for Library programs, collections and special projects; develop new programs which maximize use of library resources, staff and technology.

Special Qualifications: During long-term Master Plan renovations commencing in 2003, portions of the library's collection and/or staff will move temporarily to nearby but offsite location. Experience in administration of collections in transition preferred, flexibility and creativity essential.

Qualifications: MLS from ALA-accredited library school; advanced degree in art history or humanities; and reading knowledge of French, German or Italian preferred. Experience: 7-10 years professional experience. Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to work as part of team. Flexibility and versatility required to work in an evolving work situation. Involvement in professional organizations. Excellent written and oral skills.
