Adam and Sophie Gimbel Design Library, Parsons School of Design

Parsons School of Design, an academic division of the New School
University, seeks applicant for the position of Librarian at the Adam and
Sophie Gimbel Design Library. This is a full-time union position. Salary
is $36,920 - $41,930 annually.

Responsibilities:

·     Provide reference service, orientation, and bibliographic instruction
in specific subject areas of art and design to the student body and faculty; compile bibliographies, and assist patrons in the use of the collections of the Library. 

·     Participate in collection development. 

·     Supervise on-site technical services. 

·     Liaise with Bobst Library of New York University and other members of
the Research Library Association of South Manhattan; maintain on-line
catalogue and related internal records; explain policies and procedures
and train staff.

·     Assist the Director in the general operation of the Library. 

·     Coordinate all exhibitions in Library.


Requirements:

·     M.L.S. degree from an ALA-accredited program; a sound background in art and/or design.

·     Two-three years of professional library experience.

·     Demonstrated competence in reference in an academic or specialized
library.

·     On-line searching and bibliographic instruction.

·     Knowledge of a wide range of traditional, electronic and automated
resources.

·     Experience with web page construction and HTML principles.

·     Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to
maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and students in
a culturally diverse academic community

·     Ability to prioritize tasks.

·     Familiarity with acquisitions procedures preferred.
