Salary Range: $42,780-$63,840

Associate Librarian/Archivist will serve as the Project Archivist for a
two-year project funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Introduction
The Environmental Design Archives, a unit of the College of Environmental
Design that reports to the Dean of the College, holds more than five
million items within more than archival 100 collections.  It is the most
extensive source of written and visual information on the development of
Bay Area and Northern California architecture and landscape architecture.
To support the educational mission of the University, the Environmental
Design Archives is committed to raising awareness of the significant design
heritage of Northern California through collecting, preserving, and
providing access to the primary records of  the built and landscaped
environment of the region.  Staffing consists of a part-time faculty
curator, curator, assistant curator, and student technicians to support a
full archival program including acquisitions, processing, cataloging,
reference and outreach.

Responsibilities:
Working in consultation with the Curator of the Environmental Design
Archives, will develop strategies for project planning and implementation;
oversee the processing of four mid-20th century architectural collections
including appraisal, arrangement, description, and preservation; implement
the online cataloging using MARC and EAD; determine selection of images to
be digitized and manage related workflow; and train and supervise project
staff. Promote collections through publication, exhibition, and public
speaking.

Qualifications
REQUIRED:  Graduate degree from an ALA-accredited institution, Master's
degree in Archival Administration or equivalent degree; and a minimum of
two years successful experience with archival collections. Experience with
digital projects and on-line description and cataloging including an
understanding of current trends and techniques.  Experience with MARC and
EAD standards for description as well as familiarity with metadata concepts
and standards. Well-developed computer and on-line searching skills. Must
have excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills,
initiative and flexibility. Candidate must have strong commitment to
excellence in service and demonstrated ability to work independently as
well as collaboratively in a complex, changing environment.

DESIRED: Candidates with combinations of the following additional
qualifications will be given preference:  Supervisory and training
experience, experience with architectural records and/or a background in
design, experience with MS Access software and knowledge of relational
database concepts, demonstrated experience in development and documentation
of standards and procedures.

governance, to be able to work comfortably in a shared decision-making
environment, and to be active professionally. Advancement in the Librarian
series is based in part on professional contributions beyond the primary
assignment(e.g. active participation in university and professional
settings, publications or other research). An exclusive bargaining agent,
the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), represents librarians at the
University of Califorina.  This position is included in the bargaining unit.
